Preliminaries

In this chapter we present the formal language theoretical notions and notations we use in the dissertation, we present the basic definitions concerning Lindenmayer systems, and finally we introduce the model we are going to study: the simple eco-grammar system.

The definitions concerning Watson-Crick complementarity, the subject of the last chapter, can be found in Chapter 6 because that is the only part of the dissertation where we use them.
