Grading Policy

  • There are two midterms during the semester. Each one of them consists of 6 problems worth 10 points/problem. The conditions of obtaining the signature are as follows.
    1. Each midterm separately has to be at least 24 points.
    2. At most 30% of the practice sessions can be missed (in this semester that means 4 occasions).
  • There is a repeat midterm for both midterms separately during the regular semester time, and a signature testduring the first exam week. The material of the repeat midterms is the same as that of the original ones. If a midterm is repeated, then the the result of the repeat is used, no matter of whether it is better or worse than the original one. The only exception is that a signature obtained cannot be lost by writing a failing repeat midterm.
  • The signature test has special rules.
    1. Only those can write the signature test who did not satisfy the conditions of signature by the two midterms and their repeat midterms, but have at least on passing grade midterm (at least 24 points on at least one of the midterms).
    2. One has to register in Neptun for the signature test. Without registration we cannot enter the result to the Neptun system.
    3. Neptun bills special fee for participating in the signaure test.
  • The exams are oral. The student is assigned one question from the list of exam questions. He/she has 45 minutes to prepare and make notes. During the questioning, the examiner may ask questions from other topics than the question assigned to the student.
  • The final grade is evaluated as weighted average of the results of the midterm and the final exam as follows: midterm results have weight 2, oral exam has weight 3. In practice this means that 40% of the points of obtained on midterms added to the up to 60 points obtainable at the exam. Grades are as follows: 40-54 points pass, 55-69 points satisfactory, 70-84 points good, 85- points excellent. If the oral part is below 24 points, then the mark received is "fail" regardless of the midterm results. The oral exam can be repeated once.
  • A signature obtained is valid for 3 years.
