Where to Install the RMS License Server and Licensed Applications?

The licensed application is installed separately on each client computer.

The license server can be installed and run on multiple computers. It can be installed on any computer, even a computer that is used to run one of the licensed applications. The application running on a client may choose any available license server with a valid license code for that client.

Installation Instructions

You may need to install the Sentinel RMS license server using its installer (which may be provided by your vendor or can be downloaded from the SafeNet web site at http://www.safenet-inc.com.

Double-click the Sentinel RMS License Manager (license server) setup.exe.

Installation Path

The RMS License Server (Sentinel RMS License Manager) is installed at the following path on Windows: <OSDrive>:\Program Files\Common Files\SafeNet Sentinel.

Manually Adding Sentinel RMS License Server Entry in Windows Firewall

If the Sentinel RMS license server is not added under the Windows Firewall exceptions, the communication between the clients requesting licenses and the RMS license server cannot take place.

The Sentinel RMS License Manager (license server) installer adds this entry, by default. If you change this default addition during the installation, you need to manually allow the Sentinel RMS License Manager (license server). Here are the steps:

  1. From the Start menu, point to Settings and click Control Panel.

  2. Double-click Windows Firewall.

  3. Click the Exceptions tab.

  4. Click the Add Program button.

  5. Browse for the license server executable (lservnt.exe). It is installed at: <OSDrive>:\Program Files\Common Files\SafeNet Sentinel.

  6. Click OK. You will find the lservnt.exe listed under the Programs and Services list. Make sure that the checkbox alongside is kept selected.

Checking Presence of the RMS License Server

On Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista, you can check the presence using the following steps:

  1. From the Start menu, point to Settings and click Control Panel.

  2. Double-click Administrative Tools.

  3. Double-click Computer Management.

  4. Under Services and Applications, select Services. A list of the services installed on the system is shown on the right-side pane.

  5. Look for the Sentinel RMS License Manager entry.
